The first Saturday in October every season signals the start of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup and Challenge Trophy.
And with West Riding County Amateur League teams having won the senior competition seven times in the last ten campaigns, there is no reason why they should not continue that dominance.
Holders Bay Athletic have a bye into the second round, as do both Campion and Steeton.
So the spotlight falls on Tyersal, who have possibly the toughest tie of the opening round as they visit Knaresborough.
The West Yorkshire League Premier Division side lifted the Challenge Cup in 2010, when they beat Albion Sports, and last season only lost in the semi-finals to Bay.
If Tyersal are to progress they must keep up the form that has seen them beat Bay in the league and take points off both Campion and Steeton.
Wibsey will be looking to build on their first league win last weekend as they make the short trip to Bradford University’s Woodhall Lane ground to take on Old Headingley, another West Yorkshire League side.
Salts must also travel as they tackle Huddersfield League side Newsome.
Challenge Trophy action sees the reserve sides of Bronte Wanderers, Salts and Steeton all playing home ties, against Elland All Stars, Westbrook YMCA Reserves and Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves respectively.
Albion Sports Reserves and Tyersal Reserves are on the road, at Woodman and Kirkheaton Rovers.
Only eight league games are scheduled, with fourth-placed Campion looking to put last week’s 2-0 Premier Division defeat at Storthes Hall firmly behind them.
They can take advantage of leaders Ovenden West Riding and Golcar United, who are third, being on cup duty to move nearer the top with victory over visiting Marsden.
Steeton head to Huddersfield and will be keen to cash in on defending champions Bay Athletic’s indifferent early-season form.
In Division One, third-placed Ventus-Yeadon Celtic won 3-1 at Dudley Hill Rangers at the end of August and will be looking to complete the double in the return fixture.
