Gateshead 0 Guiseley 1
Guiseley boosted their placing in the UniBond Premier Division table with an excellent away victory at Gateshead last night despite two injuries in the opening quarter of the game.
Nathan Hay limped off after just minutes with a pulled hamstring and Andy Wright followed midway through the first half.
The game's only goal came very late, Chris Clarke netting nine minutes from time.
It was a deserved result on the balance of play in a game of few clear-cut chances. Neither side dominated and Guiseley had to defend well at times against the home side.
Guiseley keeper Steve Dickinson made a great save from a free-kick in the first half and pushed a shot round his post for a corner after the break. But Gateshead's keeper was far busier on the night.
"It was a very good win for us. It is always a breakthrough when you win your first away game of the season," said Guiseley manager Neil Parsley.
"I had to make enforced changes very early in the game but the squad stood up to the test and defended well as a unit.
"Simon Sturdy and Danny Ellis were excellent in central defence but all the lads did well.
"We only got a point at home on Saturday from a tough fixture and people looking in from the outside may have thought we had dropped a couple of points.
"Now, four from the last two games looks a good return."
