The two local clubs looking to replace outgoing managers have nothing to report other than a plethora of applications for the roles.

Thackley, who finished eighth in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division, and divisional rivals Brighouse Town, who ended 16th in the 20-strong top tier, are both looking for new bosses after the resignations of Dave Morgan and Mark Brier respectively.

Dennyboys’ secretary Mick Lodge said: “We have had a dozen people expressing an interest, and some are more suitable than others.

"At the moment, all we have done is acknowledge them all and ask them to be patient while we get organised.

“It has been difficult because there is a lot of illness among the committee at the moment. Most of that is trivial but we have two people who are not at all well and we will not be putting any pressure on them to come in and sort this out. Some things are more important than football.

“There is no rush at the present regarding training or pre-season friendlies but we want to let the players know where they stand as soon as possible.”

Malcolm Taylor, club secretary at Brighouse, said: “We have had quite a few applications and our chairman said the cut-off period was during this week, so we are working on the ones we have in already.

“To my mind we need to move quickly now and I hope to have an announcement within seven to ten days. We have discussed it and we feel we need someone who has managed at this level, or above, but I don’t even know who has applied.

“Chris (Brighouse Town’s chairman) has been dealing with the phone calls and letters, and there has been a lot of interest.

"I certainly hope it will be settled sometime in the coming week because I have been getting forms from leagues and the FA and I have had to say ‘can you give me a bit of leeway?’ because I don’t know who our manager will be.

“All this going on and it’s supposed to be close season! Mind you, I haven’t had one of those for 40 years so I know what to expect.

"This is the busiest time of year for everybody, except the players and the supporters. We still haven’t had the presentation night for last season yet.”
