City plan to contact former chairman Gordon Gibb again next week to see if they are making any inroads over a new rent deal for Valley Parade.

The T&A understands that Gibb has been in Bradford for private talks on behalf of his family pension fund, who have owned the stadium since 2003.

City’s life vice president Jack Tordoff, the chairman of JCT600, was also believed to be involved.

While details of what was discussed have not been revealed, the club are ready to follow it up with another letter to gauge the opinion of their landlords.

Director of operations David Baldwin confirmed: “A meeting has taken place and things are progressing.

“The club will be writing to Gordon Gibb and the trustees of the pension fund imminently. We want him to outline his understanding of where we are now and what our way forward is going to be, which is out of the hands of the club.”

City are hoping that the Trustees of Flamingo Land Ltd Self Administered Pension Scheme and office block owners Prupim will agree to a fluctuating scale of rent depending on which division they are playing in.

The club are threatening to move to Odsal if they cannot reduce their current outlays, which include a £750,000 annual rent bill.

City would need the approval of the Football League to switch home. They have been keeping the authorities up to date with developments and joint-chairman Julian Rhodes met them for a second time on Monday.

The League are understood to be “very supportive” of City’s position.
