Leeds United have made an improved offer to out of contract midfielder Neil Kilkenny.
The two sides have been wrangling about a new deal for several months, with the Australian international holding out despite pressure from the club.
But Simon Grayson is keen to keep Kilkenny, who has been one of the success stories of the season and played in 37 Championship matches, so chairman Ken Bates has agreed to increase his offer.
No doubt during negotiations Bates has pointed out to Kilkenny that he was one of the players involved in a fracas against Burnley that has cost the club £12,500 for failing to control their players.
They admitted the charge, as did Burnley, who were only fined £5,000 because Leeds had recently been found guilty on a separate charge following their match at Nottingham Forest.
