Brighouse Town are looking for a new management team following the resignation of Mark Brier and assistant Darren Attwood after the season had drawn to a close.
It had been a promising but difficult campaign and the Hove Edge club’s first in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division following promotion the previous campaign.
Brier had been brought in three years ago when Brighouse, his home-town club, stepped onto the non-League ladder from the West Riding County Amateur League.
He said: “I was asked to establish the club at the higher level, form an under-19s academy and set up an infrastructure that would allow Brighouse to run a strong reserve side, bring players through from the under-19s and have junior teams right down the age groups. We’ve done that.”
Town issued a club statement and posted it on their website and that of the NCE League thanking Brier and Attwood for their efforts over the last three years. Brier was also extensively quoted in the press release and has had time to let his decision sink in.
Today he reflected: “There were no fall-outs and there is no truth in rumours that Darren and myself will be popping up at another club. It was just time for a change.
“There has been a little bit of frustration here and there and the club does need investment, however I have nothing but total respect for the committee at Brighouse Town.
“At this moment in time I just want to have a rest, not to wake up in the morning with football issues at the forefront of my mind. I want to give a little time back to my family, take a breather and get back into my music a bit.
“I’m a musician and I have recently joined a band. I have made a few lifestyle decisions over the last few weeks. I’m doing a bit of what is good for me. I’m not ruling out a return to the game down the line but it would be in the future.
“After all, I think Brighouse Town have grown as a club on the pitch and enhanced their reputation within the game in the time I have been here.
“I thank the club for the opportunity they gave me and in return I believe the club benefited from my involvement.”
