For most of the season the outcome of the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division title looked to be between Bay Athletic - champions for the last three seasons - and Albion Sports, who were the runners-up last season.
However, the midweek results, where Albion beat their local rivals Campion 3-0 and Bay's surprising 2-2 draw at basement side Tingley Athletic has blown the race for the silverware wide open, and made Saturday's meeting of the two sides at Myra Shay (2-30) a real 'six-pointer'.
Bay, who have played one game fewer, hold a two-point advantage over Albion.
Wibsey, who are still in danger of losing their top- flight place, head to Golcar United in search of that point that will keep them safe.
Littletown moved into top place in Division One ahead of Salts on goal difference after a 5-1 win over local rivals Heckmondwike Town on Wednesday night, and with four games still to play they must now be favourites to return to the Premier Division.
Salts know their fate is in their own hands.
Only a maximum of six points and a few goals from their last two games, starting on Saturday with the visit of fifth-placed Bay Athletic Reserves to Saltaire, will give them promotion.
Tyersal’s reserve side, who have only one game left to play at home to Bay Athletic Reserves on Saturday week, can only watch and hope that the clubs below them fail to gain the points that would relegate them back into Division Two.
Crag Road United could see relegation into Division Three confirmed if they fail to beat their visitors Lepton Highlanders, who are heading for promotion in their first season in Division Two.
Last night’s results - Premier Division: Albion Sports 3, Campion 0; Brighouse Town 5, Wibsey 2; Lower Hopton 1, Storthes Hall 1; Ovenden West Riding 3, Kirkburton 4; Tingley Athletic 2, Bay Athletic 2. Division One: Heckmondwike Town 1, Littletown 5; Wakefield City 5, Overthorpe 2. Division Two: Crag Road United 2, Long Lee 4; Golcar United Reserves 1, Huddersfield YMCA 1. Division Three: Long Lee Reserves 1, Hunsworth Reserves 8; Salts Reserves 3, Littletown Reserves 2.
