Damien Melvin fired an extra-time hat-trick as West Bowling kept their treble hopes on track with a 6-3 win over Buttershaw White Star in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League SENIOR CUP final.

Bowling had retained the West Riding County Sunday Cup in midweek with victory against Wakefield team Redoubt.

And they also need just three points from their last two league matches to win the Premier Division title for a second successive season.

Melvin had taken advantage of hesitant defending to give Bowling an early lead and only superb goalkeeping by Mark Bower kept Buttershaw in contention going into the second half.

Bower then pushed a Melvin shot onto the bar and White Star took advantage to equalise on the hour mark through Rob Morgan’s fierce shot.

Buttershaw, the only team who can deny Bowling the league title, then surged two goals ahead as Andy Benjamin made it 2-1 in the 75th minute before Mark Flanagan converted a penalty.

Referee Gerry Illingworth then also awarded Bowling a penalty with nine minutes remaining but the chance was missed.

So it was left to Darren Storey and Melvin to net in the last five minutes to force extra time, which saw Melvin take his goals tally in the game to five and 45 in the season to date.

League action saw Baildon Trinity Athletic continue their run of good form with a 4-2 PREMIER DIVISION win against third-placed Relay Recruitment Rovers, Harry Bates hitting two of the goals.

Dudley Hill Rangers rounded off their season with a 2-0 victory at Queensbury with goals by James Firth and Ian Fletcher.

DIVISION ONE champions Mill Lane signed off with a 7-2 romp at Prince, with Stephen Hollingsworth, Michael Hall and Ricky Simpson all netting at the double.

Wyke Wanderers, who will be promoted with Lane, had to settle for a 1-1 draw at relegated Oakworth Juniors.

Danny Mathews scored twice as Shipley Hockney demolished bottom side Unity All Stars 5-1 in DIVISION 1A.

And in DIVISION 1B, a second-half treble from player-manager Ben Collier helped Fleece ease to a 7-1 victory over Thornbury Quarry Gap.

Divisional champions Sandy Lane warmed up for next week’s District Cup clash with Oakworth Juniors by brushing aside Ravenscliffe 11-1.
