Eccleshill United 1, Barton Town Old Boys 2

The Eagles slipped to defeat on the last day of the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Division One season but remained in the top half of the table, marking a vast improvement on their last campaign.

Eccleshill boss and former Bantam Ian Banks said: “It’s disappointing to end any season with a defeat, and a draw would have been a fair result in this game.

"I think we lost it in the first 20 minutes, to be honest, even though we were only one down.

“We scored a fantastic goal to get back into the game but we couldn’t hold onto the lead. We have won four of our last six games, so it has been a good end to the season and we can start to think about the next one now.”

Barton Town finished fourth, just a point off promotion and runners-up Yorkshire Amateur, after their win.

Gareth Barlow netted in the 12th minute, and though Oliver Banks fired a 30-yard shot into the top corner three minutes from time, Town’s Andy Jackson snatched a last-minute winner.

The Eagles finished tenth, which is not quite enough for them to get back into the FA Cup next term after they also missed out this season.

They would have needed to grab a top-eight spot for inclusion in the 20011-12 competition.
