Robbie Threlfall believes there is nothing wrong with footballers using social networking sites – as long as they think before posting.
A City player was fined earlier in the season for making “inappropriate” comments and this week Peter Jackson denied a rumour circulating on Twitter about midfielder Tommy Doherty.
West Ham striker Carlton Cole was recently fined £20,000 by the Football Association, while referee Mark Brown was suspended for three games, over jokes they had put on.
Left back Threlfall is among the Twitter-using group at Valley Parade, which includes David Syers, Shane Duff, Doherty, Omar Daley and third-choice goalkeeper Lloyd Saxton.
He said: “It’s just the modern era. Everyone has a freedom of speech these days.
“I think it’s perfectly fine if you use it appropriately and don’t do anything stupid. But I can see how sometimes it can lead to problems.”
