Jamie Langley column

I would hate to be a head coach. Since I’ve been injured, I’ve had to watch all our games from the sidelines and I’ll be honest, I don’t envy the coaches one bit.

Results haven’t been going our way recently and it’s tough to put your finger on exactly why it’s been happening.

Even with the injuries we’ve suffered, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be higher up the table. I believe we’re a top-five team but we’re not showing it at the moment.

Anybody can beat anybody in Super League this year – some of the results over Easter weekend showed that – you just have to turn up, perform and be consistent.

Castleford are showing what can be achieved. By doing the little things right, completing sets and making few errors, they have managed to play consistently well every week.

But we’re not doing that. We’re shooting ourselves in the foot with basic errors every week and we need to cut them out.

A lot of it is to do with confidence and concentration. When you’re dropping points you make silly errors like forcing passes or kicking out on the full.

If we can break our duck and get a few wins under the belt, you start to develop an air of invincibility and it all begins rolling from there.

But the lads did show character to claim a point in France. The conditions were terrible – the only 80 minutes of rain all week seemed to fall during the game – but we showed character and it’s positive we at least picked up a point.

On the topic of France, I have to give a quick mention to Platty, who got jealous when he saw some young ladies asking Elliott Whitehead for photos outside the team coach after the game.

Platty just couldn’t believe what was going on and why nobody was asking him for photos, so he got back off the coach and asked the young ladies if they wanted a picture with him too.

They agreed but I think they were forced into it really. So if any fans want pictures with the players, Platty’s your man.
