Guiseley face their final league game of the campaign on Saturday and a quirk of fate has pitched them with a fixture against Eastwood Town.
The irony of the situation is that Eastwood could finish their campaign above the Lions in the Blue Square Bet North, keeping Steve Kittrick’s men outside the play-off places.
However, Eastwood have been refused inclusion in the end-of-season extras because of ground grading requirements, meaning sixth-placed Guiseley have already booked their spot.
Fourth-placed Town will certainly feel they have a point to prove at Nethermoor but Lions boss Steve Kittrick is just as determined that his side earn a play-off spot in their own right.
After making it into the top five last Saturday following their 2-0 home win over Gainsborough Trinity, they dropped to sixth on goal difference two days later as they were held to a 0-0 draw while Eastwood won on Easter Monday.
Kittrick said: “I feel for Eastwood, I really do. They are a strong club with a very good side and if you look at it from their point of view then you feel it is unfair.
“The players of that club must be devastated that they have battled up from 17th place back in December just to have the door slammed in their faces.
“But we have to be focused on what we do in this game and earn the right to be in the top five and to do that we have to beat them.”
There are no new injury concerns for Kittrick and he may have strikers Joe O’Neill (foot) and Darryn Stamp (groin) both available again.
Guiseley will also have one eye on how fifth-placed Nuneaton – on the same number of points as them and Eastwood – get on at champions Alfreton Town.
