Tadcaster Albion 5, Farsley 1
FARSLEY’S treble bid was crushed in some style as they lost the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League President’s Cup final at Tadcaster Albion.
Tadcaster, who were on the tails of Farsley for so long in the title race, had home advantage – but they also did in the game which saw Farsley seal their championship.
That match earlier this month ended in a 4-3 win for Neil Parsley’s men, so tonight’s 5-1 reverse came as a major shock.
Favourites Farsley were 2-0 down at the interval and had goalkeeper Tom Morgan sent off in the second half to compound a disastrous evening.
Mick Thompson opened the scoring for Tadcaster and Stuart Rice added the second.
Ryan Qualter made it 3-0 after the break before Morgan saw red for handling outside the area.
They had another keeper in young Tom Taylor on the bench and had only made one substitution so were able to bring him on.
But he could do nothing as Graham Whitehead and Terry Taylor netted for the hosts in the last eight minutes.
It was a far better night for SILSDEN as they romped to a 7-0 win against basement outfit Ashton Athletic in their last home game of the season in the Vodkat League Premier Division.
The Cobbydalers were 4-0 to the good by the break. Martin Trickett broke the deadlock in the 18th minute and also added the second two minutes later.
A deflected shot from Andy Lee and a header by Peter Hanson completed the first-half scoring.
Matthew Kershaw then grabbed a second-half hat-trick with assists from Jordan Barker for his first and Alex Moogan for the next two.
