Guiseley slipped out of the Blue Square Bet North play-off places with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against mid-table Gloucester City – but it may not be too damaging.

The Lions lost fifth position to Eastwood Town, who won away on the night but lost an appeal regarding ground grading and if they were to finish in a play-off berth they would not be considered and the spot would go to the sixth-placed club.

Top scorer James Walshaw put Guiseley in front midway through the first half when he pounced after a Darryn Stamp shot had been parried by the visitors’ keeper. Gloucester equalised through Darren Edwards just before the hour mark.

The main source of angst among the Lions was the number of chances they wasted. They also felt they had a clear-cut penalty when Walshaw’s legs appeared to be taken from under him 11 minutes from time but the referee was not interested.

Neighbours FARSLEY AFC reached the final of the Kool Sport NCE League President’s Cup but they needed extra-time before winning last night’s semi-final 4-2.

The Premier Division leaders had home advantage over Division One outfit Handsworth but the visitors put up a real fight.

Alex Torr gave them a half-time lead before an own goal from James Mitchell two minutes after the break levelled the tie.

Handsworth again took the lead, with Sam Smith on target, but the hosts snatched an injury-time leveller when Ben Jones latched onto a rebound.

A Ryan Watson strike and a second goal for Jones in the first extra period ripped the heart out of the visitors.

In the Premier Division, BRIGHOUSE TOWN earned a 3-0 home victory over relegation-threatened Hallam.

SILSDEN won by the same scoreline in the Vodkat League Premier Division, Kevin Ryan banging in a hat-trick at St Helens Town.
