Omar Daley was back in City colours as Peter Jackson made five changes for the Burton game.
The Jamaican, recalled from his Rotherham loan spell at the weekend, came straight into a side which looked much stronger than Friday night.
The biggest surprise was the appearance of right back Lewis Hunt after the club agreed to honour his contract clause.
Lenny Pidgeley returned in goal for Jon McLaughlin, who had a shaky night at Roots Hall.
James Hanson and Steve Williams were also back from injury, giving the team a far more balanced look.
And there could be more good news regarding Simon Ramsden, who will find out tomorrow if his latest treatment has worked.
If clear, the injury-jinxed skipper could still feature before the end of the season.
CITY: Pidgeley, Hunt, Williams, Oliver, Threlfall, Daley, Syers, Worthington, Evans, Flynn, Hanson. Subs: O'Brien, Speight, Dobie, Dean, Bullock, Chilaka, McLaughlin.
