Bradford Park Avenue moved up to third place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division with a 2-0 win at home to Ashton United tonight.
The hosts were without leading scorer Tom Greaves, skipper Rob O’Brien and the versatile Adam Clayton but gained victory to consolidate their place in the play-offs with two games left.
Avenue scored both goals in the first half on their way to their fourth clean sheet on the trot.
They opened the scoring midway through the period after Aiden Savory had been brought down just outside the area.
David Heagney whipped the free-kick into the area and centre back James Riley headed in his first goal for the club since signing from Halifax Town.
Avenue’s second came eight minutes before the interval and was following a very good move. Luke Gibson advanced down the left flank and found Martin Drury, who crossed for Savory to net an emphatic header into the top corner.
Guiseley will also be looking to cement their place in the Blue Square Bet North play-offs when they host Gloucester City tomorrow night.
Spokesman Stuart Allen said: “There were no new injury concerns after our win at the weekend (3-2 at Redditch United) but still two doubts for tonight.
“Liam Needham (knee) will have another fitness test this morning and Joe O’Neill (swollen foot) is still struggling.”
Brighouse Town are at home to basement outfit Hallam in the Kool Sport NCEL Premier Division, while Farsley AFC have home advantage over Handsworth in the President’s Cup semi-finals.
Silsden travel to St Helens Town in the Vodkat League Premier Division for an 8pm kick-off.
