Omar Daley has told City fans that he had no say in being shipped out to Rotherham.

Daley plays his first game for the Bantams since February 1 tonight after returning from his loan.

The Jamaican, who started only twice for the Millers, admitted that he didn’t want to leave Valley Parade in the first place.

“We had a meeting and I said ‘no’ but the decision was made behind my back.

“I’ve never said I wanted to leave Bradford and have always honoured my contract. There’s no place like home.

“But my instinct always told me that I’d be back before the end of the season. My heart smiled when I got the call.”

Daley has promised fans they will see the “old Omar” against Burton after Peter Taylor tried to enforce a more conservative approach on the winger.

The Jamaican is thrilled that Peter Jackson will let him off the leash again.

Daley added: “The previous manager tried to change my game a bit. It was a transition for me.

“That might work with some but not others. The fans often wondered why I wasn’t taking people on.

“The new gaffer has been really positive with me. I like the guy and I want to work for him.

“If I came in and the manager was giving me the cold shoulder then I’d feel a different way. But Peter Jackson has put his arm round me and I really appreciate that boost.”

Jackson is looking forward to seeing the boot on the other foot after trying to shackle Daley in the past with other clubs.

The interim boss said: “On his day he can cause havoc, not just to Burton’s defence but any in the lower divisions.

“He’s well capable of doing that but hasn’t done it enough. Hopefully over the next five games – and I mean all five – we’ll see a lot more of that.

“He has a point to prove after being stuck on the bench at Rotherham. Now he’s back in the limelight and will be deemed a local hero if we win the game.”

As one of City’s best-paid players, Daley’s Valley Parade future beyond the summer is in doubt. But whether the last month of the season turns out to be a farewell or not, he will make the most of it.

“I wanted to at least say goodbye to the fans because they have really supported me over the years. The fans singing my name is such a big thing and I missed that going to Rotherham.

“My agent has had five calls (from clubs) this season. I’m out of contract and I need to put myself in the shop window.

“I will definitely give Bradford first pick. But first and foremost I will give 100 per cent to try to keep them in the division.”
