Redditch United 2, Guiseley 3 Guiseley clambered back into the Blue Square Bet North play-offs with a last-gasp victory at already-relegated Redditch United.

The Lions were far from roaring before former Avenue and Huddersfield winger Simon Baldry got them back into a game they were losing 2-0 and it was the same player who netted the stoppage-time winner.

It was a difficult match on a very uneven and bone-hard pitch but persistence earned Guiseley their win, having enjoyed more goal attempts and possession.

Following a goalless first half-hour, Redditch broke the deadlock against the run of play when some poor marking allowed Jamal Geathers to net a well- directed header from the edge of the area.

Early in the second half, the Lions went 2-0 down when Joe Harris profited from an uneven bounce inside the Guiseley area to net a thunderous shot.

When a Baldry header converted a James Walshaw cross there was little over a quarter of the game remaining and a win looked unlikely.

Walshaw, fellow forward Darryn Stamp and former Bantams midfielder Luke Sharry all went close more than once but time was running out for them.

They eventually levelled in the penultimate minute from a Walshaw penalty following a handball offence.

Then in injury-time, Gavin Rothery made a great run and provided the final ball for Baldry to win the game with a left-footed strike.

Spokesman Stuart Allen said: “We made hard work of it but we got there in the end. It makes tomorrow’s game (at home to Gloucester) an important one because we could move up the table.

“We played all right but the main thing was that we kept battling, so we are still very much in with a shout of promotion.

“Their goalkeeper was man of the match.

“He wasn’t the biggest of lads but he was very agile and he made some excellent saves.”

Guiseley’s position was further strengthened as other play-off rivals drop-ped points.
