Thackley edged the Kool Sport NCEL Premier Division derby 1-0 at Brighouse Town but not without some fighting spirit from the hosts and a contentious incident deep into injury time.

The Dennyboys were in control during the first half and could have turned around three goals to the good. However, they had to settle for a narrow lead, courtesy of full back Stuart Waite’s low drive from the edge of the six-yard box.

After the interval, it was Town who were applying all the pressure but they could not produce an equalising goal.

An Alex Hallam free-kick skimmed the bar and a Damien Hopkins shot, which was heading for the top corner, was well saved as Thackley preserved their lead.

Town thought they had levelled late on following a goalmouth scramble but a flag – believed to be for offside – curtailed their celebrations in the fifth minute of injury-time.

Liversedge were beaten 2-0 at Long Eaton United with both of the home side’s goals coming in the first half.

Michael Armstrong cut in from the right before drilling in a good shot for the first and Michael Allsop touched in the second following a free-kick on the half hour.

In Division One, Eccleshill United enjoyed another home victory as they beat Worsborough Bridge 2-1.

Marcus Edwards put the Eagles in front just before the hour and notched a second ten minutes from time before Bridge’s Adam Podmore pegged one back.
