Farsley AFC are tantalisingly close to sealing the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division title going into their penultimate league game of the season this weekend.
Neil Parsley’s men travel to fourth-placed Tadcaster Albion on Saturday in the knowledge that they will be in for a tough game.
Their hosts were promotion contenders themselves until recently but are now out of the race. Farsley, on the other hand, are hot favourites.
They would have to lose both of their remaining games to be caught by either Bridlington Town or Parkgate, who are second and third respectively, as both trail by 12 points with five games left and have vastly poorer goal differences than the leaders.
Farsley will also be on a high after reaching the League Cup semi-final with a derby win over Liversedge in midweek thanks to a single strike late in extra-time.
Thackley were also in midweek knockout action but suffered defeat in a County Cup final derby thriller, going down 4-2 to Guiseley after extra-time at Valley Parade.
The Dennyboys gave a good account of themselves against their neighbours from the Blue Square League, so their confidence should not be low.
But tomorrow’s hosts Brighouse TOWN’S may well be after a disappointing end to their season as they showed so much promise early in the campaign.
Town are 16th going into the weekend, while Thackley are seventh with an eye on a second top-four finish on the trot.
Brighouse are only one place higher than LIVERSEDGE, who held Farsley to 0-0 for 118 minutes of Tuesday’s cup tie.
Sedge are on the road this weekend as they head to mid-table Long Eaton United, who looked uninspiring in last Saturday’s 0-0 bore draw at Thackley.
ECCLESHILL UNITED have home advantage over fellow mid-table side Worsbrough Bridge in Division One and will hope to bank maximum points to keep them above their visitors.
Meanwhile, SILSDEN host Merseyside outfit Bootle in the Vodkat League.
The Cobbydalers’ midweek goalless draw saw them register their sixth clean sheet in eight games, which has coincided with the signing of goalkeeper James Mann from Barnoldswick Town.
Mann picked up the Premier Division’s ‘Safe Hands’ award for March.
