Leeds United are wary of the Clough factor as Derby County look to inflict a league double on Simon Grayson’s men at Pride Park tonight.
Nigel Clough’s side were 2-1 winners at Elland Road on the opening day of the season and Leeds assistant manager Glynn Snodin believes Brian Clough’s son will be especially keen to record another victory over the club Old Big ’Ed used to hate.
The intense rivalry between managers Don Revie and Brian Clough in a different era was a major theme of the film ‘The Damned United’ and Snodin said: “I don’t know what is in Nigel’s mind but he will want to win every game he can in this league.
“Maybe in view of the history between his dad and this club it might be a little bit special if he beats Leeds.
“Nigel has said Derby need one more win to ensure their safety in the Championship and I agree. They looked a good footballing side when they came to our place but they seem to be faltering at home where the crowd tend to get on their backs if things are not going right in the opening half hour.”
Striker Billy Paynter completes his three-match ban and United were today checking the fitness of defender George McCartney, who missed the Millwall game with knee and ankle injuries.
