Hull City 2, Leeds United 2
Goals from Robert Snodgrass and Davide Somma either side of the interval rescued a point for Leeds after they had gone 2-0 down at Hull.
It was Simon Grayson’s 100th league game in charge and he must have wondered if he had been wise not to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window after watching the home side create a string of chances from set-pieces.
Andy O’Brien passed a fitness test and returned to the centre of Leeds’ defence, with goal-hungry substitute Somma promoted to make his first start since November.
Aaron McLean put a sitter over the bar in the opening 30 seconds as Hull made a bright start, dominating a shaky Leeds defence, and only two outstanding saves from Kasper Schmeichel kept the Tigers out.
It was no surprise when the home side made their pressure count with two goals in seven minutes from Matty Fryatt and James Chester.
But a minute before half-time Somma was brought down on the edge of the box and Snodgrass celebrated his Scotland call-up by clipping a superb free-kick into the net.
Leeds drew level ten minutes into the second half when Somma’s snap-shot beat Brad Guzan for his tenth goal of the season.
United were looking much more dangerous but still vulnerable at the back and Lloyd Sam’s first touch after coming on for Somma was to clear a Fryatt shot off the line following a corner.
Grayson sent on Billy Paynter and Ross McCormack and Hull had to play with ten men for the last four minutes after Liam Rosenior was stretchered off.
But Leeds had to settle for their seventh draw on the road this season.
