City were booed off after suffering their fifth defeat in six games tonight.
And Peter Taylor came under fire as a game that had started so promisingly fell apart.
City got the start they wanted with a sixth-minute lead as James Hanson turned in David Syers' cross.
The home side were in charge for most of the first half, forcing a string of corners and Syers running the show in midfield.
But City were punished again for switching off again just before the break as Delroy Facey found himself unmarked to head home from a free-kick.
Lifted by their equaliser, Lincoln came right back into it in the second half and Jon McLaughlin saved well from Josh O'Keefe.
The momentum had totally shifted as the visitors chased a fourth straight win.
Luke O'Brien, who had a fine game, was close to a wonder goal after nutmegging two opponents.
But Lincoln carried more and more of a threat and McLaughlin blocked from Ashley Grimes.
And City fell behind nine minutes from time, Gavin McCallum hammering home the rebound after McLaughlin had blocked an initial shot from Grimes.
Syers headed wide from a corner but there was no reprieve from this latest demoralising result.
