Westwood Park were five minutes away from progressing to the last eight of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup yesterday.
However, a late equaliser for hosts Ferrybridge Progressive and a penalty kick that was superbly saved by home shot-stopper Lee Kelsey put the match into extra time.
John Penn had scored a brace for Park and, along with a strike from Glyn Hurst, had given them a 3-2 lead.
With five minutes remaining, Penn, handed a chance for his hat-trick, saw his penalty saved and the hosts equalised with two minutes left.
There was no further scoring and the match went into a penalty shoot-out, where both teams scored their first six spot-kicks.
Kelsey was once again the hero when he saved the visitors’ seventh penalty and then took his club’s seventh and put his team through to the next round.
Prince were a minute away from extra time at Travellers Rest Bramley, only to be hit by a late winner.
Alan Morley junior had given the Bradford team the lead in the first half before the home side equalised.
Liam Kinch put the visitors in front again, only for the Leeds team to restore parity once more.
Although Prince pressed hard for the winner, the cruel late strike won the day for the hosts. West Bowling now visit the Bramley team.
In the West Riding County FA Trophy, Victoria Celtic took their match to penalties against Yeadon Vets after sharing six goals in normal time and two in the extra period.
In the penalty shoot-out, Yeadon won 3-2. The Bradford team’s scorers were Ryan Lambert, Carl Aaron, Danny King and man of the match Sean Jack. Dudley Hill Rangers Reserves were beaten 2-0 by Heavy Woollen team Pear Tree.
The only Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division action took place at Rawdon Meadows, where Ventus Sports entertained West Bowling.
Weakened Sports were behind to two headed goals from Chris Wood by the interval.
At the start of the second half, Wood completed his hat-trick with a 25-yarder before the hosts came back into the match with strikes from Ben Hardy and Andy Philp.
The champions then moved further in front when Wood hit his fourth and Chris Hanney made the game safe.
Thornton United continue to progress up the Division 1A table after a 3-1 victory over FC Bradford.
Victoria Rangers also had a convincing victory, 5-1 over Dog and Gun, Nicky Walker hitting a hat-trick.
Basement outfit Unity All Stars also picked up a point at Stocks Lane Rangers, sharing two goals.
Sandy Lane continue at the summit of Division 1B after a 5-0 win over Prospect, four of the goals being scored by Matthew Cavanagh, Chris Mawson completing the tally.
Thornbury Quarry Gap dented the hopes of second-placed Fleece, winning 3-2 with Jack Barker helping himself to a brace in a match in which the hosts were never behind.
In Division 2B, Second West moved into mid-table with a convincing 4-2 victory over Eccleshill Sunday.
Titans kept alive their promotion prospects in Division 3A, winning 4-3 against Jubo Dhol, with Tyrone Terralonge putting them in front after five minutes and then hitting a second after the interval.
Leaders Oddfellows won 2-1 at Cuedos Reserves, while second-placed Whitburn Athletic proved too strong for gallant Cricketers Arms in a 5-0 victory, with Kirk Taylor bagging a hat-trick for the hosts.
Hockney All Stars had a hard earned 3-0 victory over top-of-the-table Aire Athletic in Division 3B, with Nabeel Hussain bagging a brace for the visitors.
Adam Page also had a double in a 2-0 victory for Salthorn WMC against Park.
In Division Four’s top-of-the-table battle, Carl Heningborough hit two for leaders Hare and Hounds against third-placed Dovesdale, with Craig Ricketts and Dean Burnside also hitting the net for the front-runners.
Second-placed Swaine Green had a 5-1 victory over mid-table Fleece Clayton, with Alan Greenwood hitting a hat-trick and Ben Cooke chipping in with a couple to keep alive the hosts’ promotion ambitions.
