Guiseley 3 Hinckley United 2
Two goals from Gavin Rothery helped Guiseley reclaim second place in the Blue Square Bet North with a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Hinckley United last night.
It was a match packed with incident in which the Lions lost keeper Steven Drench to injury and the game lost the referee.
The official went down with a calf problem 17 minutes from time and a call had to go out on the PA system for a qualified assistant referee to ensure the game could be completed.
The visitors opened the scoring and wrapped it up three minutes after the senior linesman stepped into the middle. But it was Guiseley who banked all three points to move within two points of top spot.
Lloyd Kenny broke the deadlock in the 11th minute but the home side were level at the break after Warren Payton rifled home a 25-yard screamer.
On loan former Bantams striker Danny Forest went close to putting Guiseley ahead but it was a strike from Rothery just before the hour that did it.
Rothery added a second with another good finish just six minutes later.
Hinckley’s second came through James Reid but despite Guiseley not being at their best they saw out a deserved win.
