Farsley go into Saturday’s clash of the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League top two still leading the Premier Division but with confidence dented.
Parkgate have home advantage against Neil Parsley’s men but trail their visitors by only two points. A draw would keep Farsley at the summit but they will be seeking much more than that as they need to send out a statement.
Two league victories and a resounding League Cup win seemed to suggest Farsley had snapped out of the malaise that saw them pick up just three points from a possible 15. But they slumped to another shock defeat in midweek when going down 2-1 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
If ever there was a fixture that could define a season it is this one as a defeat would see Farsley off the top and having played three times more than the new leaders.
There is a game of equal importance to the protagonists at the other end of the table as LIVERSEDGE head to Dinnington Town. The home side are third from bottom while Sedge are on their coat tails.
A victory at fellow strugglers Hallam on Tuesday night not only lifted Sedge off the foot of the table but also moved them into double figures in the points column.
If they were to manage back-to-back wins they would overhaul their opponents and move out of the bottom two.
BRIGHOUSE TOWN will be glad to have home advantage as they also meet one of their nearest rivals.
Town are seventh following two draws on the road against top clubs but visitors Maltby Main are fifth.
THACKLEY are without a fixture this weekend as scheduled opponents Tadcaster Albion are still in the FA Vase.
In Division One, ECCLESHILL UNITED head to third-bottom Rossington Main in search of a fourth victory in five league outings since the weather relented.
The Eagles are back up to a lofty sixth place after their recent good run and should they win at Rossington, and other results go their way, they could be third by Saturday night.
