Farsley AFC 1, Scarborough Athletic 0

A victory by the narrowest of margins ensured Farsley stay at the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division summit.

Farsley started well and created chances in the goalless first half but they had to defend well to earn the three points that kept them top of the pile.

Neil Parsley’s men did not lose their focus and were eventually rewarded in the 75th minute.

It was a well-worked goal, with Andy Cooper starting the move, Gareth Grant providing the assist and Roy Stamer firing in the finish.

Parsley said: “If there is such a thing as a comfortable, good 1-0 win then this was it. We struggled to put it to bed but I felt we thoroughly deserved it.

“We created some very good chances early doors that were cleared off the line and we hit the woodwork.

“I feel if we keep clean sheets we win football matches because we always have goals in us.

“Jacko (assistant manager Mark Jackson) was outstanding at the back, closely followed by Lee Connor, Nathan Hay and Ryan Serrant. It was a sterling display from our back four.

“It was also a good day for us elsewhere because most of our promotion rivals dropped points.”

Farsley are still two points clear but second-placed Parkgate, who won away, have two games in hand.
