It’s been a tough week for us after what happened in the Barnet game.
Unfortunately, it’s a bad habit of ours when we’ve had a bit of a run.
We tend to respond when we’ve had a nightmare and pull results out but when we start talking ourselves up, too often we end up slipping back to square one.
Quite a few times when the chips have been down, we’ve been able to bounce back straight away. But we have to start showing the same strength of character when we are expected to do well.
The first half wasn’t great but we went in 1-0 up. Then we started the second with loads of corners and I was thinking ‘this is all right.’ Nobody was getting cocky or believing that we were miles better than them. It was just the way the game was panning out and it looked like we would soon score again.
Then all of a sudden we find ourselves 3-1 down and everyone’s saying ‘what happened there?’ It was a real slap in the face.
So instead of winning three on the bounce, we’ve got to pick up the pieces again tomorrow. We don’t do it the easy way.
Of course we’re still in there. It was an opportunity missed and we’re all disappointed but with games coming thick and fast now, there is the perfect chance to put that behind us.
Hopefully in a few weeks we can look back at Barnet as just one of those days rather than a result that was make or break.
Rob Kiernan was obviously a bit down after the first own goal of his career but it happens to us all.
I remember when it first happened to me when I was playing for Cardiff against Plymouth.
The worst thing was it was on Sky, they won 1-0 because of it and I also got subbed! It’s not a great memory.
All the players would like to send their regards to Macclesfield Town and Richard Butcher’s family after his death.
He was the same age as me and we came up against each other a few times.
Apparently he was one of the fittest lads in the dressing room so it’s come as a massive shock to everyone.
