Barnsley reserves 3 Bradford City reserves 1

Jake Speight scored on his first appearance back in Bradford colours as City’s reserves lost at Barnsley.

Following his recent loan spell at Port Vale, Speight gave City the perfect start after only ten minutes.

He shrugged off the attentions of Ben Carlisle before finishing sweetly with an angled drive that found the top corner from eight yards.

However, goals from Steven Bennett, Ruben Noble-Lazarus and Danny Fearnebough gave the home side victory.

The result could have been different. With the score at 2-1 with ten minutes left, City created an eye-catching opportunity to equalise.

A flowing move between Alex Flett, Speight and Dominic Rowe ended with Rowe hitting the crossbar with a curling effort from the edge of the area.

Barnsley punished the near miss, with Fearnebough finding the net with a low free-kick in stoppage time.

The match also saw the return of City duo Lewis Hunt and Luke Dean after long-term injuries.

City reserves: Saxton, Hunt (Harrop 46), Lawless, Flett, Horne (c) (McGivern 72), Robinson, Rowe, Marshall (Dean 46), Chilaka, Speight, Stephenson. Subs not used: Elliott, Forsyth.
