A band of volunteers who helped clear away the snow were rewarded with a victory as Tyersal beat Campion 2-0 in a West Riding County Amateur League local derby.
Terry Ryan’s goal gave the hosts an interval lead and Alan Morley junior doubled the advantage in the second half as Tyersal climbed to seventh in the PREMIER DIVISION.
Steeton consolidated third place in the table with a 7-1 thrashing of visitors Marsden, moving to within a point of second-placed Albion Sports in the process.
Lee Reilly notched four of the goals and Andy Holden two, with Graham Holmes completing the hosts’ tally. This was after Dean Siddiq had given fifth-placed Marsden an early lead.
Ovenden West Riding were made to pay for missing early first-half chances as they lost 2-0 at home to local rivals Brighouse Town.
Wayne Crossley opened the scoring in the first minute of the second half and an Ian Hudson own goal ended Ovenden’s hopes.
The only game to beat the weather in DIVISION ONE saw Bronte Wanderers hit visitors Overthorpe for six without reply.
A Dave Armstrong hat-trick led the way, backed up by Andy Fox (2) and Mohammed Amin.
A couple of DIVISION TWO games went ahead, including a useful 2-0 win for Ovenden West Riding Reserves against Steeton Reserves thanks to goals from Richard Hartley and Martin Woodhouse.
Promotion hopefuls Kirkburton Reserves and Rawdon Old Boys had to settle for a point apiece from a 1-1 draw.
Marsden Reserves moved top of DIVISION THREE ahead of Albion Sports Reserves after beating Ventus/Yeadon Celtic Reserves 3-2.
Bottom side Long Lee Reserves gained only their second point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Salts Reserves.
But second-bottom Bronte Wanderers Reserves slumped 3-1 at home to Lower Hopton Reserves, who climbed to third position.
In the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA CHALLENGE CUP, Albion Sports – at home to Bardsey – and Golcar United, who travel to Thackley Reserves, saw their ties postponed until Saturday, January 22.
But the County Amateur League do have one club through to the quarter-finals after Bay Athletic hit back from 3-1 down at home to Huddersfield neighbours Storthes Hall to run out 7-3 winners after extra time.
Long Lee booked their place in the fifth round of the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA TROPHY with a 5-3 win at Halifax League side Hebden Royd Red Star Reserves.
Goals from Stephen Hardaker (2), William Lee (2) and Liam Walsh sealed a home tie against Bay Athletic Reserves next Saturday.
