Maltby Main 3 Thackley 1
Thackley slipped to a disappointing defeat in a Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash that saw both sides reduced to ten men midway through the second half.
A flare-up following a challenge sparked the incident.
While a mass confrontation was taking place, Maltby’s manager came onto the pitch and got involved.
The referee restored order and singled out Thackley’s Andy King and the home side’s Robert Brannigan for red cards.
The official also ordered the home manager off so he had to leave the dugout.
Maltby had scored the only goal of the first half just after the half hour when Craig Geliff lashed in a shot from outside the area.
Early in the second half, Shaun Airey brought Jonathan Wragg down and Geliff fired the free-kick over the wall and into the net for 2-0.
After the sending-offs there were two goals in the last three minutes of the game. The visitors went 3-0 up after a goalkeeping error – Matt Convey slipping after racing out of his area to clear, gifting Oliver Warren an open goal.
Thackley substitute Harry Thompson drilled a shot through a crowd of players for the visitors’ consolation strike.
Thackley secretary Mick Lodge said: “It was very much after the Lord Mayor’s show for us after the fine midweek win at Farsley. It was a poor display all around, every department underperformed.”
