Bradford Park Avenue were denied a home game yet again this week but they will expect Saturday’s Evo-Stik League Premier Division match at FC United of Manchester to go ahead.
The club spawned by disgruntled Manchester United fans play their home games at Bury’s Gigg Lane ground so the pitch should be in good condition.
Avenue’s frustration is reaching ridiculous levels after twice being thwarted during the week.
Their scheduled Bank Holiday Monday fixture at Horsfall Stadium against Northwich Victoria was postponed an hour before kick-off because an area of the pitch was frozen.
They rearranged the game for Wednesday night but that had to be called off because the playing surface was under standing water after a thaw and rain.
Avenue had already surpassed their longest-ever period without a home fixture so they are feeling the pinch financially as well as the annoyance of not being able to play for points.
They played just one away match in December and followed that with a game at Ossett Town on New Year’s Day. Picking up a maximum six points lifted them to sixth in the table, although not playing since while many of their rivals did saw them drop back to eighth.
Avenue currently sit nine points behind second-placed Colwyn Bay but have three games in hand. The Welsh side beat leaders Halifax on Monday, while the Bradford club were forced into yet another impromptu training session.
John Deacey’s men were hoping to build on their last run-out after turning in a good performance as they celebrated the start of a new year with a 6-0 victory at West Yorkshire rivals Ossett.
John Dean was speaking more as a fan than a chairman when he said: “I really hoped we would get the Northwich game in because it was such a joy to watch the side against Ossett.
“Brett Renshaw and James Knowles (centre backs) dealt with anything they threw at us and Michael Hale behind them looked solid. The full backs were not just defending but were also overlapping.
“Tom Greaves was wide right but he supplemented Aidan Savory and Steve Burton, who were up front. In fact, it would be unfair to leave anyone out for praise and Rob O’Brien came on for his first game since breaking his leg.
“John (Deacey) has had just four games since he came back and they have all been away. We have won two and drawn two and everyone in the squad is playing better.”
