Farsley go into the weekend still topping the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division but they are teetering following a derby defeat on Tuesday night.

Thackley made the short trip to Throstle Nest and came away with a 2-0 victory after riding their luck at times in a goalless first half.

Given the problems all clubs have suffered over the past six weeks, Farsley were applauded for ensuring the game – which was postponed from Monday, December 27 – went ahead.

Thackley spokesman Mick Lodge said: “They had 30 separate leaks from burst pipes and had plumbers in all day.

“Our team had to change in the sports hall adjacent to the ground because of the state of the visitors’ dressing room and both teams had to go there for showers after the game.

“The pitch there is superb and well looked after, so there wasn’t a problem with the playing surface. They deserve a lot of credit for making it happen and they played some decent stuff but we came into our own in the second half.”

Farsley will be looking to get back to winning ways and hold their place at the summit as they head to Dinnington Town this weekend.

The home side are fourth from bottom with just 13 points, while Neil Parsley’s men need just one to be the first through the 40-point barrier.

Thackley are also on the road on Saturday as they travel to Maltby Main, having moved up three places to seventh with their midweek win. Their hosts are immediately above them in the table but only by three points and they have played two more games.

BRIGHOUSE TOWN are the only one of the four local representatives in the top tier to have home advantage. The fifth-placed outfit host Nostell Miners’ Welfare, who are just inside the top half of the table.

Basement side LIVERSEDGE face a big game at Arnold Town. The Nottingham club are only just above the two relegation places themselves and have just a four-point cushion over their visitors.

In Division One, ECCLESHILL UNITED are another club facing an away game. Like Sedge, the Eagles would see a big shift in advantage with a win because hosts Louth Town are four places higher, six points better off but having played one game more.
