Lee Bullock column
I think we’ve all seen our goal of the season now because Omar’s absolute rocket against Bury was something special.
When the cross came over and he was shaping to volley it, I was thinking ‘oh no, where’s this going to end up?’ But it came off those green boots in the sweet spot and just flew in.
Somebody’s going to have to step up to better that goal – and I don’t think it’s going to be me! What made it even better was the result and beating a really good team.
That’s what happens with these flashy coloured boots. You either score a goal like that or end up looking a bit daft.
Poor old Dave Syers found that out when he missed that one from right in front. It’s a mystery how he didn’t score. Even he doesn’t know.
We’ll let him off because he’s scored enough goals this season and played such a big part for us. But he was gutted afterwards because he’s got a top-scorer battle going on in the dressing room with Hanson.
If we’re in midfield again on Saturday, he’s already told me I won’t see much of him because he’ll be in Barnet’s box trying to make up for missing that one!
You talk about starting the new year positively and we’ve actually gone out there and done it with two wins.
We always have good games with Bury and it’s great to have come out on top again. Before, they just used to edge it but now we’ve done the double.
You could see they were good and after the first ten minutes it looked like we were in for a long afternoon. But then the lads up front, Evo and Pricey, started to put them under pressure, which got the crowd going, and we went on from there.
The next big step is to keep it going with another win against Barnet. Everyone will expect us to do that because they are bottom but that could make it a harder game than Bury.
We have to make sure our mindset is exactly the same so that we don’t come unstuck. I’m sure the gaffer and his staff won’t allow that to happen and we don’t want to let this week’s good work go to waste.
