Bradford Park Avenue tried to beat the weather by moving their home game against Mickleover Sports in the Evo-Stik Premier Division from today to tomorrow afternoon but the fixture remains in doubt.
The club moved it 24 hours back after hearing that there was a mild spell on the way but that has brought more problems with it.
A fresh covering of snow this morning made the roads difficult and a midday thaw led to water forming on top of the already-hard playing surface.
Director Kevin Hainsworth said: “It is not just about the pitch, it is about the stands, the car parks, the routes into the ground and the public transport.
“We moved it to make the most of the rising temperatures but it will still have to pass a pitch inspection.
“We like to play decent football but to do that you need a decent playing surface. It is hard to guarantee that at the moment with the way the weather has been but we have been up at the Horsfall every day doing a bit of work and have kept the pitch covered.
“It all depends on how it is on the day of the game and how deep the frost is that has been formed over a long period of very low temperatures.”
Halifax Town were the first to try to reschedule to tomorrow instead of today but it has not worked out for the Shaymen.
Their home game in the Evo-Stik Premier against Ossett Town tomorrow afternoon has been postponed, as has Sheffield FC against Lincoln United in the First Division South.
Avenue’s club historian Tim Clapham has been flicking through the history books and has highlighted that the club is on the verge of an unwanted record.
If tomorrow's game is off, it will mean the club have set a new longest run between home games.
Clapham said: “The longest the club has gone without a home fixture is 61 days. That was in the ‘big freeze’ of 1963 when Avenue met Halifax Town in a Third Division match on January 4 and next played at home against Peterborough United on March 6.
“It is 59 days since Avenue played Frickley Athletic at Horsfall Stadium (October 30). If we don’t play tomorrow, then the next scheduled home match is Monday, January 3, against Northwich Victoria so that would take it past the previous 61 days.”
