Struggling Silsden have beaten second-placed Vodkat League clubs three times this season but will have to go one better at Keighley Road on Saturday as they host leaders New Mills.

The Cobbydalers are a lowly 19th in the Premier Division table, averaging less than a point per game, and New Mills will provide a stern test.

Silsden ended up being tamed at home by Bacup Borough last weekend, when a 3-0 victory for the Lancastrians put a dampener on the official opening of the ASDA Foundation Stadium.

Spokesman Jim Rosser said: “It was touch and go with the fixture all week and the pitch was very heavy. But it was the same for both sides, so that is not offered as an excuse by any means.

“Our lads are really low on confidence at the moment. That was our seventh league defeat on the trot, so it’s clear that we have slipped down the table a lot and need a boost from somewhere.

“It is difficult to see where that is going to come from because Chris (manager Reape) is still having to cope with a lot of the experienced lads out of the side.

“That game against Bacup was also the only game in the last five weeks, so it’s no wonder that the lads were off the pace.”
