Lee Bullock column

Wethers will have to buy a new suit if the lads keep going in the FA Youth Cup.

It was a great result against Southampton and everyone’s made up for the team.

The Youth Cup is good experience for the youngsters because it feels like the real deal. You’re playing at Valley Parade in front of a crowd and it’s a big chance to impress.

There have been some decent players who have won that competition down the years and careers can be started from it.

You just have to give it your all and put on good performances, which they have done so far.

Hopefully we can follow up their good win with another one at Crewe on Saturday and build on the Hereford result.

It wasn’t the best of second-half performances last week but the three points is all that matters now. We’re four off the play-offs and things can change with Christmas coming up.

Everyone’s going to need to be ready with five games in 16 days. The full squad will no doubt be stretched to the limits.

People don’t usually have much sympathy for footballers but this is the time of the year when the rest of the public can get their payback on us.

While everyone else is out drinking and eating too much, we’ve got to look after ourselves properly.

But although the weather forecast is doing its most to see off the Christmas schedule, it’s always an enjoyable time to be playing.

Being stuck indoors meant Dave Syers has had to wait to show off his new boots. He’d been looking forward to wearing them all week.

Wearing stuff like that, you’ve got to produce – and nobody can say a thing after the way he spanked that goal in from 25 yards.

Everything he hits at the moment is going in. He’s in a rich vein of form and long may that continue.

And a quick word for Graham the kitman, who’s got his sponsored walk to Lincoln coming up. It’s in aid of the Burns Unit and he’s selling Santa hats at a minimum of £1 a time.

It’s for a good cause and he’s hoping to see all our fans at Crewe wearing one.
