Once again an early decision by the Bradford Sunday Alliance League committee meant that all the league fixtures were postponed earlier in the week.

Bradford Council then closed all the grounds for the weekend, denying teams the chance to play West Riding Sunday County Cup and Trophy matches.

But there were some West Riding Cup and Trophy matches played out of the Bradford area, with Prince FC visiting New Variety Club of Keighley.

Alan Morley senior had a goal disallowed for offside a minute before the break.

But that was the closest either side came in the 90 minutes as the tight stalemate remained.

The visitors took charge in extra-time, though, with Nathan Topley and Aaron Smith both scoring in the first period.

And a superb defensive display, led by commanding shot-stopper Alex Stephenson, secured the 2-0 victory and saw the Princes safely through.

They will now travel to either Travellers Rest from Leeds or Pudsey side BT Celtic in the next round.

Aire Athletic’s Trophy clash with Halifax-based Stallions also needed extra-time to separate them.

Kevin Bradbury put the Bradford team in front after 20 minutes but the home side equalised with a penalty before the break.

Bradbury notched his second in extra-time but it was to no avail as the hosts replied with three of their own.

Stanningley Albion didn’t need any added time to comfortably see off Huddersfield outfit Meltham Victoria Park.

Adam Hunter hit a hat-trick in their 6-3 win, with Jordan Smith, Adam Jarrett and Matthew Dibb also on target.

In an all-Alliance tie, Pudsey Amateurs’ skipper Joe Baum netted both goals in their 2-1 win over TCFC.

Any clubs still in both the West Riding and the Bradford & District competitions are reminded that district cup ties take precedence this week, weather permitting.
