With many grounds being declared unfit for play on Thursday and Friday, it was not surprising when the few clubs who delayed their decisions until Saturday morning found that there had been a sufficient thaw.

But Steeton, who currently sit third in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division, missed out on the chance to take advantage.

They could only cut the deficit to second-placed Albion Sports by one point after being held to a 3-3 draw at home to Wibsey.

Steeton, who had Jamie Longley and Graham Hol-mes on target in the first half, were reeled in as strikes from Carl Storey, Jack Murphy, and Philip Brogan fired Wibsey 3-2 up.

Lee Reilly levelled for the hosts but their second-half pressure could not produce a winning goal.

Salts were edged out of second spot in Division One a fortnight ago with a 2-1 loss to Littletown.

But they bounced back to form with a crushing win over Overthorpe SC.

Salts moved within a point of leaders AFC Emley after a 9-0 thrashing at Saltaire Playing Fields.

Lee Grice led the carnage with a hat-trick, and Matt Newall, Joe Pleasance and Lee Newall added to the tally.

Then second-half substitute Kyle Berry took full advantage of his 25-minute stint on the field by banging in the final three goals.

With most of the West Riding cup competition games rescheduled after postponements the previous weekend, Bay Athletic and Storthes Hall advanced through the third round of the Challenge Cup.

Bay were too strong for visitors Kirkby Malzeard and won 4-0. Storthes Hall beat Gildersome Spur 4-2.

It was not such good news for the Halifax sides, though. Ovenden West Riding lost 3-0 at Leeds City, while Halifax Irish were beaten 5-1 at Sherburn White Rose.

The league’s other remaining sides – Albion Sports, Lower Hopton, Golcar United and Westbrook YMCA – will all be playing at a later date.

Tyersal Reserves and Ovenden WR Reserves are both out of the Challenge Trophy. Tyersal went down 6-4 to Bay Athletic Reserves, with Ovenden losing 3-0 at home to Knaresborough Town Reserves.

The FA National League System Cup for clubs at step seven and below has been re-named the FA Inter League Cup.

In the draw for the 2011-12 competition, the West Riding County Amateur League were handed a trip to Birmingham & District in the preliminary round.

The Yorkshire Old Boys’ League and West Yorkshire League have got byes.
