City can reward their long-suffering supporters by winning promotion to League One this season, according to former England striker Dion Dublin.
Dublin, who made four appearances in a Three Lions shirt, believes it’s high time the Bantams rewarded the Valley Parade faithful with a serious promotion push after last season’s mid-table return.
Former England boss Peter Taylor, who replaced Stuart McCall in the hot-seat back in February, is charged with lifting Bradford from the bottom tier of the Football League for the first time in four years.
Bradford offer the second cheapest season ticket in the whole of the Football League and Dublin believes the City boss needs to make sure he keeps the vocal supporters on side.
“Bradford are probably the biggest club League Two has seen in some time and I they have sold a lot of season tickets again,” said Dublin, speaking courtesy of npower to promote the Football Saver tariff.
“It is about time the players reward the fans for their loyalty just like Norwich and Leeds did last season when they were getting big attendances in League One.
“I know the Bradford players will be under pressure and they will want to get results for the fans.
“The fans play an important part of a football club and they can sometimes help win matches with their support.
“Everything is there for Bradford to win promotion so it is now up to the players do the talking on the pitch.”
Dublin however believes the standard of football, both on and off the field, in the lower divisions has improved immeasurably since his playing days.
The former Aston Villa and Coventry star started his career with Cambridge United in the old Division Four and appreciates the higher quality if lower league football makes it harder for clubs like Bradford to bounce back up.
“The level of football down in League Two nowadays is better than I would have thought and it is an exciting league to watch with some good clubs there,” Dublin added.
“It is not just the football being played on the pitches that has improved because it all has – the stadiums, attendances.
“There are some big clubs too that have perhaps once been in the Premiership, like Bradford, and that just adds to the excitement.”
