Branshaw member Harold Jackson is celebrating his first hole-in-one – at the ripe old age of 82!
Harold sank his tee shot at the 192-yard second hole – the club’s second longest par three – with a three wood during a friendly fourball on Monday.
He is believed to be the oldest member at Branshaw to achieve a hole-in-one.
Yet having played the game for nearly 40 years, the 24-handicapper admitted he thought his chances of an ace had passed.
“I’ve hit the pin quite a few times but the ball has never dropped before,” he said.
“You get to a certain age when you think it’s not going to happen. So it was a bit of a surprise.
“There is a certain amount of luck in having a hole-in-one but you are firing at the hole and if it goes in, it goes in. More times than most it misses, so I was rather pleased to see it go in.”
Harold, who turns 83 in October but still plays two or three times a week, was particularly pleased to ace one of the course’s longer par threes.
“I felt it come right out of the middle of the club.
“It was nearly 200 yards from tee to pin so it wasn’t like a pitch, it was a full-blown drive.
“At my age, I guess there won’t be many who do it!”
Harold, who went on to birdie the par-four third hole for good measure, has played golf in Scotland, Spain and Tunisia but was pleased to break his duck at Branshaw. “I live in Oakworth and it’s nice to do it on my home course,” he said..
