Steeton are hoping to better last season’s bumper crowd of 400 when they host a Vintage Clarets XI in a pre-season friendly at their Summerhill Lane ground on Sunday, August 15 (3pm).

Former Burnley professionals, including Andy Payton, Ashley Hoskin, Roger Eli and John Francis, will turn out for the charity match, which will be played in memory of Steeton player James Gill’s grandfather Michael Emsley.

Emsley, a pub landlord from Barnoldswick, was an avid Burnley fan.

The teams will compete for the Michael Emsley Trophy, with proceeds going towards improvements at the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division side’s ground.

Admission charges are adults £5, under-16s £2, with free admission for under-fives.

The full Clarets squad is: Chris Brass, Andy Farrell, Ashley Hoskin, John Mullen, Roger Eli, Paul Atkinson, Liam Robinson, Chris Pearce, Chris Scott, Paul Scott, Craig Mawson, Gerry Harrison, Graham Lancashire, Ian Britton, John Francis, Jonathan Irvine, Lenny Johnrose, Robbie Painter.

The main game will be preceded by an under-13 match between Steeton and Bradford Tigers (1.30).
