Peter Taylor may have to delve back into the transfer market to boost City’s injury-hit frontline.

Both James Hanson and Leon Osborne are set to miss the Shrewsbury opener on August 7.

With Omar Daley also unavailable, Taylor admitted he will be considering further reinforcements in the next fortnight.

He said: “I’ll work out what I think is best for us and have a look around. But it is frustrating when you get injuries at this stage.”

Southport striker Chris Simm had been on tour hoping to win a contract but Taylor revealed he would not be taking it any further with the 26-year-old for now.

“It’s been a tough week for Chris,” he said. “You train twice a week and then all of a sudden you’re training for five days and playing some matches.

“I thought he looked a good player against Ferriby and I was very interested in him. But he’s got very tired this week.

“I’m going to let him go back at the moment and have a little think about it.

“If he goes back to Southport and starts scoring goals, I’m sure we will always keep an eye on him.”

Midfielder David Syers saw his trial cut short by injury against Canvey but Taylor wants to bring in right back Lewis Hunt.

The former Wycombe defender featured in all four southern games and the City chief sees him as ideal cover for Simon Ramsden.

“If all of a sudden Rams gets injured, that might hurt us a bit too much. Lewis is an experienced player and a good one.

“That’s an important area for us and something I’m going to talk to the chairman about.”
