The local clubs will have a staggered start to the campaign as the various leagues go for different opening weekends following a truncated closed season after the World Cup.

With the higher leagues having play-offs at the end of last term, they are the later starters this time around. The lower rungs on the non-league ladder have no extensions to their seasons, so they began their break earlier.

That means the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League and the Vodkat League will be first out of the summer recess. Following the creation of Farsley AFC, there are now six semi-professional outfits in the area that fall into that category.

Thackley, Liversedge, Farsley and the newly-promoted Brighouse Town all begin their Premier Division campaigns on August 7. The same Saturday sees Eccleshill United, in the lower tier of the same league, and Vodkat Premier club Silsden also back in meaningful action.

Of those half-dozen clubs, four will face their first FA Cup tie of the 2010-11 season the following weekend. Just Farsley and Eccleshill are not involved in the famous knockout competition’s extra preliminary round.

It will be a particularly tough start for Thackley and Brighouse as their first eight-day periods see them each with three games, all in different competitions.

Guiseley will begin their maiden season in the Conference League set-up with a home game on Saturday, August 14 when Nuneaton Town visit Nethermoor in the Blue Square North.

The Lions follow that with two away games, at Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday and Stafford Rangers the following Saturday.

Bradford Park Avenue, who missed out on the title and promotion their neighbours gained by just one point and then lost in the play-off final, are the last to get into league action.

The Evo-Stik Premier Division gets underway on Saturday, August 21 and Avenue kick off their season at Horsfall Stadium when Chasetown are the visitors.

Like old rivals Guiseley, Avenue then go into back-to-back away fixtures with trips to Northwich Victoria and Colwyn Bay.
