Sunay’s centenary match against a Legends XI at Clayborn (3pm) will be a celebration for Liversedge but also the last match for management pairing Sean Regan and Billy Miller.
The Legends team will include local heroes such as Dean Windass, Peter Beagrie, Brian Deane, Neil Aspin, John Hendrie, Roger Eli and Wayne Jacobs.
As well as the former Bantams and Leeds old boys on show, there is more than a chance that some former Terriers could be putting in an appearance.
Regan will be bowing out after the game as he turns his focus on unearthing and developing players that may be legends and heroes of the future, the Sedge boss having accepted a role with Scunthorpe United’s Academy.
Club spokesman John Hewitt said: “We hope it will be a wonderful occasion and that Sean and Billy go out on a real high. It hasn’t been timed like this but it’s nice for them, the players and supporters to be able to give them a send-off.
“There will be other ex-professionals playing in the Legends team as well as the ones who were at local clubs. The price through the turnstile is just £2 per adult, half price for concessions and under-11s (accompanied) are free.”
The Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit have been quick to fill the vacancy created by the departure of their management team. Taking over will be Stuart Waddington and Adam Hughes, who quit their roles at Glasshoughton Welfare last week.
Hewitt said: “We should have played Glasshoughton in a friendly last Saturday but that was cancelled because Stuart and his assistant had quit. It wasn’t the only game they called off.
“We couldn’t even think of holding Sean back when he was asked to go to coach at a Football League club, so he leaves with the best wishes of everybody here. We thought about appointing Billy at first but he said he came with Sean so wanted to go at the same time.
“Billy works at Darlington Town in their Academy set-up and lives in North Yorkshire, so he decided not to take over. Also, like Sean now, he is involved full time at a club so has a lot on his plate.
“They were in charge of Tuesday’s friendly at Littletown and will be doing this centenary match. They have done well for Liversedge but after the weekend it will be the start of another new era for the club.”
