Chris Simm insists he is not too old to join the pro game at 26.

The Southport striker is chasing a contract offer from Peter Taylor on City’s southern tour.

Simm believes he is good enough to make the grade after banging in 40 goals in the last two seasons.

He rejected a deal from Wrexham two years ago when they were still a league club. And he accepts this could be his final chance to play full-time.

Simm, who has spent the last week with City, said: “I’m realistic about it but I know that I’m good enough.

“It’s just a case of somebody giving me that opportunity and Bradford would be a great place to start.

“Wrexham offered to sign me but it just wasn’t enough money. You’ve got to weigh everything up and I had the chance of playing part-time with decent money as well as working.

“I’ve got a family with two little kiddies and I couldn’t throw everything away. I could have found myself £300-£400 quid a week down for the sake of playing in the league.

“At that time it wasn’t right. But the situation is a bit different now and hopefully I can sort something out here.”

Like James Hanson, Simm is a bustling frontman who is willing to chase everything. He has already asked Hanson’s advice on bridging the gap between part-time and the league.

“I’ve spoken to James about how he found it,” added Simm. “I think I’ve got the fitness, it’s just the difference in quality at this level compared to what I’m used to.

“I’ve been quite relaxed so far. I thought I’d feel the pressure a lot more but the lads are a great bunch.

“Considering I’m on trial, they are making me feel like one of them.

“Being down here with the squad gives me a little bit more time to show the club what I’m about. Hopefully I can get a contract so that I can really get stuck in with Bradford.”
