Farsley have arrived on the non-league scene after the all new club made their bow in a friendly at AFC Emley last night.

A 3-1 victory saw them get off to a winning start as they build towards their debut season on the football pyramid.

The club, a hoped-for diamond formed out of the carbon waste created by the implosion of Farsley Celtic, have been allocated a place in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Their first-ever game was overseen from the dugout by the former Celts management team of Neil Parsley and assistants Simeon Bambrook and Mark Jackson. Other names from the recent past were also on show.

It was not a perfect start for the new club as Andy Brownrigg tapped in for the home side in the seventh minute.

But Andy Cooper levelled from close range three minutes later, before Roy Stamer put Farsley in front in the 17th minute directly from a corner.

The curse of the pre-season friendly then struck as Farsley’s Nathan Kamara was stretchered off in the 25th minute with a bad knee injury.

But the visitors put the gloss on their initial victory eight minutes from time when former Bantams striker Gareth Grant netted.

While many of the players and coaches are back on board, much to the credit of the Throstle Nest hierarchy and old fashioned loyalty, one off-field cog in the wheels has been poached.

James Grayson was press officer and programme editor for the old Celts but when they were forced out of business last March after failing in a bid to bring the club out of administration, he ended the season in a similar role at Harrogate Town.

Harrogate chairman Bill Fotherby, who was involved at Leeds United in years gone by, used his persuasive skills to ensure he kept hold of Grayson.

The young press man, who has just finished his first year on a sports journalism degree course at Huddersfield University, has agreed to stay with the Blue Square North club.

He will take care of their press coverage, be instrumental with their match-day programme and will be heard making the announcements at Wetherby Road.
