Bradford Park Avenue have tasted both victory and defeat from their first two friendlies so they are unsure what to expect from tomorrow’s home warm up game against Droylsden.
After a comfortable victory over a new-look Durham City side, Simon Collins’ men lost 3-0 to his former club Huddersfield Town.
The Coca Cola League One outfit brought a near full-strength side on Wednesday.
Collins will be happier with that game than the first, despite the result, because it was a much sterner test.
He is hoping new striker David Heagney is fit and confirmed that Tom Greaves has returned to the club for a second stint. Both have featured in the previous two games.
“Heags is the lad we signed from St Johnstone in the Scottish League and he did very well against Durham and just failed to cap his debut with a goal,” said Collins.
“We have been in talks with Tom for a couple of weeks and he is now an Avenue player once again. He has a very good record in these divisions and he will be a very good addition.
“Our keeper Ben Scott was the only player to stay on for the whole game but you have to make your goalie do the full bit. If you don’t they just get lazy and lose concentration because they are a different breed. They are madder than a box of snapping turtles and Ben is no different.”
Avenue are keen to point out that the fixture is at Horsfall Stadium and not away as it appears on the new Evo-Stik League website. Avenue’s own unofficial forum Avenue online is currently down as they are switching to a new provider so that has further confused the issue.
It is a very busy weekend of friendly fixtures for the area’s semi-pro clubs with six of the others also in action, some for the first time.
Brighouse Town are at home to Halifax Town for a derby warm-up game.
The only other club at home are Eccleshill United, they are hosting Rainworth MW who won promotion to the Evo-Stik League last season. Guiseley, who were also promoted, to the Blue Square North, travel to Ossett Albion.
Thackley head to Field FC for their second friendly while Liversedge journey to Glasshoughton Welfare and Silsden have switched their game against Oldham Athletic (kick off 1-30pm) to Oldham’s training ground after work began at Keighley Road this week.
