Eccleshill’s pre-season friendly against Thackley tonight was subjected to a long delay after visiting centre back Shaun Airey suffered a bad injury in the opening minute.
He went down in the centre circle after just 37 seconds, dislocating his kneecap as he landed.
The rest of the players were ushered back into the dressing rooms while Airey received treatment and awaited an ambulance.
The game was held up for more than 40 minutes before the player was stretchered off.
The match ended in a 1-0 win for the visiting Dennyboys, with skipper Ross Daly netting the only goal.
But it was the second consecutive friendly that was a little flat after being overshadowed by a serious injury.
The Eagles’ first game last week saw Bradford City midfielder Luke Dean suffer a hairline fracture of the shin following a robust challenge from Eccleshill’s Mick Baker.
