Lee Bullock wants to spoil a few promotion parties before the season is over.

City have only contracts – and pride – to play for in the remainder of a mediocre season.

But while their own hopes of featuring in the top-of-the-table run-in are long gone, they can still have a say in a few issues.

Three of City’s last five games are against clubs with serious League Two promotion and play-off aspirations, starting with tomorrow night’s Valley Parade clash against Morecambe.

Peter Taylor’s Bantams also face high-flying Chesterfield and Northampton down the final straight, so those results will be far from meaningless.

Bullock shares the frustration of the fans at City’s own shortcomings this term – if only the home side were in the mix themselves. But he views the finale as a chance to make a defiant sign-off.

It is the smallest consolation but the uncompromising midfielder admits that taking on teams with so much still to play for at least gives the closing weeks a bit of much-needed spark.

Bullock, one of many players sweating on a new deal in the summer, said: “We’ve got some decent games coming up; big games for the teams we are up against.

“You don’t like to see them enjoying it, so hopefully we can ruin a few parties.

“Morecambe are right up there at the minute, Northampton are just off the play-offs and Chesterfield have been fighting to go up automatically. We want to dampen down a few celebrations.

“It makes the games better for us, knowing that a lot is riding on them. And if you know they really need the three points, we can try to take a bit of joy from beating them.

“Of course, it’s not the same as being up there ourselves and we’re not daft enough to think that. But at least we can earn a bit of pride back by putting on a good show.

“We’ve had a very disappointing season but nobody will allow the last few games to simply drift away. We cannot afford to do that for a lot of reasons.”

City owe the home support a much better performance after the no-show against Macclesfield seven days ago. Macc won again at the weekend to drop the Bantams to 18th place and memories of that Valley Parade defeat still rile Bullock.

He admitted: “The manager wants us to give the fans something to get excited and to shout about and we failed miserably last week. It was a very flat display and we just never got going.

“We’ve got to pick it up again and these are good games to do that. Other clubs up there in the league will also be watching us and hoping we do them a favour.

“But first and foremost we’ve got to go out there, do it for ourselves, the fans and for the club. Things haven’t gone how we had hoped this season and we want to have something to enjoy before the end.”
